JCTS were pleased to attend and participate in the Flinders University Rural Rescue Challenge on 8 & 9 October 2026.
Almost 40 medical students ventured out to Batchelor, located 98km south of Darwin to gain practical experience in rural and remote healthcare.
In the blistering heat (up to 38 degrees!), students worked through real life scenarios they could face when working in the Northern Territory.
JCTS staff volunteered to be part of scenarios such as snake bites, major trauma, heatstroke, and burns. Alongside volunteering in the scenarios, JCTS staff brought a cultural lens to help students consider culturally safe communication and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
Students worked alongside local GPs, rural generalists, nurses, paramedics and Aboriginal health practitioners, gaining firsthand insight into the diversity and impact of rural medicine.
Thanks to everyone involved in organising such a fascinating initiative!
