SOUTH AUSTRALIA

JCTS South Australia

South Australia has many opportunities for GP’s in both rural and urban settings. The traditional owners of Adelaide are the Kaurna people. We have training posts on Ngarrindjeri country as well as Bunggarla, Nukunu, Buandig, Antakirinja, Wirangu, Kokatha and Pitjantjatjara.

JCTS has a close relationship with Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCHOs) as well as Medical Services with well-supported training placements in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

What we offer

  • Aboriginal Health and Culture Workshops for GP Registrars and Practice Managers.
  • Aboriginal Health Registrar Monthly Workshops for Registrars undertaking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health placement.
  • Compulsory Workshops for those in their first year of training (GPT1s).
  • Orientation Sessions for Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) members and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) members.

One unique option in SA is the roving registrar position with ACCHO, Nunkuwarrin Yunti of South Australia, where the GP Registrar will have the opportunity to rove between clinics in the heart of Adelaide on Kaurna Country, to working in the opal capital of the world, Cooper Pedy (Kupa Piti), as well as the head of Spencer Gulf in Port Augusta (Goordnada).

We are proud to have an extremely high exam success rate amongst registrars undertaking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander training. Many of our registrars who have Fellowed continue to work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health either in South Australia or interstate.

JCTS SA work with established elder groups as well as individuals for various cultural practices. For example, we have worked with Uncle Major ‘Moogy’ Sumner to provide Welcome to Country and boomerang throwing at our workshops. We also work with Kuma Kaaru who provide cultural tours for our GP Registrars and Uncle Basil Coleman and Aunty Rosalind Coleman who provide cultural mentoring for GP registrars.
