Last week, our JCTS QLD team travelled to Thursday Island to deliver an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Cultural Workshop for ACRRM and RACGP GP Registrars.
Attendees were given a special Welcome to Country by Traditional Owner, Uncle Saila Savage and Auntie Betty before commencing the workshop organised by Cultural Educator, Maryann Ansey and Program Coordinator, Raphael Rial.
The workshop covered topics such as cultural safety, practices, protocols and traditions and unconscious bias. JCTS Medical Educator, Dr Jacinta Power also delivered a clinical case study for the group to put their new skills and knowledge into practice.
To conclude the day, attendees were treated to an authentic traditional experience including a Torres Strait Islander dinner and island dancing with ‘Island Stars’ run by Joey Laifoo.
