Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders men have different health needs than women due to many things, including:
- Having different bodies
- Experiencing different diseases
- Having different risk factors.
A men’s health check will depend on the man’s age. Different diseases are more likely to be present in specific age groups that your doctor will check. A health check is when a GP or healthcare provider takes your history, does an assessment of your body, and may advise you to be as healthy as possible.
All health checks will start by yarning with your doctor about your:
- Medical history
- Sexual history (if you are sexually active)
- Vaccination history
- Hobbies
- Sleep
- Eating habits
- Substance use (if you do smoke, drink or use drugs).
They will also ask if you have any other concerns that you may haven’t
mentioned already.
