
Gastro is a common infection that affects your stomach and intestines. It can make you vomit, have diarrhoea and feel unwell.
Gastro is mostly caused by viruses, like rotavirus and norovirus, but it can also be caused by bacteria, toxins, parasites or other stomach-related illnesses.
Symptoms of gastro
If you get gastro, you might have:
- Watery diarrhoea
- Crampy stomach pain
- Vomiting
- Fevers
- Headaches
- Muscle aches
- Feeling really thirsty and dry in your
mouth because of vomiting and diarrhoea.
These symptoms can start 1 to 3 days after you get infected, and they usually last for 2 to 4 days, but sometimes they can stick around for longer.
